Shalom

Shalom
She trudges along leaving behind
Her dead sons and a daughter.
She trudges along leaving behind
Images of immane slaughter.

She trudges along leaving behind
Memories of her childhood.
She trudges along leaving behind
Her home and her neighborhood.

She trudges along leaving behind
Her home and her loved ones.
She trudges along leaving behind
Her husband and butchered sons.

Tanks fired and soldiers came
Men were fleeing in a hurry.
The village was set aflame
Little feet were sent to scurry.

The Exodus continues; people die
An old man and a newborn babe
Spirits soared toward the sky
They found no other escape.

She trudges along leaving behind
Her dreams and her destroyed home.
She’s there to remind the world,
The message was death not ‘Shalom’
